Phnom Penh is a vibrant Asian metropolis with offers a blend of history, architectural gems, local culture and some of the vest cuisine in Cambodia. I really recommend visiting Phnom Penh to anyone wanting to know the Cambodian culture.

For some people visiting Cambodia might be a challending experience as it is not such a much traveled country as its neighboring Thailand, for example and findind the best area to stay in Phonm Pneh it is important for your enjoyment and safety.

The best thing you can do to realx and enjoy and make sure you have some nice accommodation booked before you get to the city so you do not need to streess and go looking all around with your luggage once you reach your destination.

I stayed in Phnom Penh for two weeks and know the city quite well. I have put this guide together to help you finding the best are to stay in the city and give you some suggestions about the best hotels and resorts to stay.

BEST AREA TO STAY IN PHNOM PENH

The best area to stay in Phnom Penh and where I stayed is the riverside that is officially part  Khan Doun Penh, a big district that runs along the Tonle Sap from the Japanese Bridge all the way to Independence Monument.

This area refers to the riverside are from the Night Market and the Royal Palace. This was my favourite area to stay in Phnom Penh as there is water close by that gives a nice atmosphere to the area and beautiful sunsets. I found other areas of the city nice but so so cool for a stay.

WHERE TO SAY IN PHNOM PENH: TOP HOTELS FOR ALL BUDGETS

Phnom Penh offers a wide range of accommodation and you can stay in pretty decent places for quite a good price.

I have done a bit of research for you and put these list of hotels together to help you choosing the best option for your budge and acommodation needs.

Budget : These are budge accommodation options with a room for yourself. You can also find very cheap hostels in Cambodia but I personally do not recommend sharing when traveling in Asia. You can find good quality accommodation for quite cheap and it is always better to have tour personal space while traveling.

Mid range : These are stays below 100 $ but with a bit more comfort that the budget options. Some time mid range and budget can be pretty similar in Phnom Penh. Please check the optiosn and decide for yourself.

High end or Luxury: If you are willing to splurge or you want a day of a treat or your budget allows for these kind of travel you can always find pretty good options for this kind of accommodation in the city.

I mostly used Booking.com when traveling and have been happy until now.

BUDGET HOTELS IN PHNOM PENH

Ohana Phnom Penh Palace: This is the hotel where I stayed and I loved it. The price is budget but in my opinion the facilites are quite luxury. The rooms are really nicely decorated and clean with a beautiful bathroom and the staff working at the hotel are very nice. The hotel has a stunning swimming pool on the roof where you can refresh and enjoy some pretty stunning views of Phnom Penh.

Breakfast is served in the top terrace and it is usually included in the rooms price.

La Chronique hotel: This hotel is simply beautiful and the rooms are exquisite and offer airconditioning options. I almost chose to stay here but for me it was missing the swimming pool. If you do not need to use a pool during your stay the hotel is perfect and the service is amazing.

The hotel features a garden, terrace and private parking if you require.

HM Grand Central hotel: The swimming pool area in this hotel is simply stunning and you really get a lot for a very good price. This is a 4 star hotel and has a 24 hours front desk. The hotel comes equipped with sauna and gym as well as a shared lounge area.

The rooms can equipped with desk, ideal if you want to do some remote work during your visit to this Cambodian city.

There is a lovely restaurant also located at the hotel.

Jungle addiction: Another hotel with a wonderful swimming pool area to relax. I find it very important to have a swimming pool when traveling around Cambodia as it can get pretty scorching hot in there.

This hotel has amazing rooms and it is rated with 4 stars and has very good Wifi signal and a bar. The property is quite close to the city center and all rooms come with a wardrobe, kettle, fridge, flat screen TV and safety box.

The hotel is very well rated by travelers.

MID RANGE HOTELS IN PHNOM PENH

If you have checked the hotels in the previous section in Booking.com you will see that they are all pretty luxurious, even if they are in the budget range. In general you can find very good accommodation for a low price in all the country. But in case you want a bit of a better trip I am listing here my favorite list of mid range accommodation options in Phnom Penh.

Patio hotel & Urban resort: Patio Hotel & Urban Resort has a wonderful  rooftop pool where guests can relax and have dinner at the on-site restaurant or unwind at the bar while enjoying the stunning views. There is WiFi is available in all areas of the hotel.

The lovely place is established in a convenient location 10 minute walk to the Central Market and Wat Phnom. It is also 1,8 Km away from the Chaktomouk Hall.

All rooms offer air conditioning and a nice sitting areas with a desk and TV, and hairdryer.

Guests can rely on the 24-hour front desk for currency exchange, arranging tours, ticketing, and concierge services. An internet cafe is available for guests to enjoy freshly brewed beverages or make use of the complimentary computers. Additionally, guests can indulge in traditional massages on-site.

With sweeping sea views from the 7th floor, the in-house restaurant offers a diverse array of Asian and Western dishes with 24-hour in-room dining options. The rooftop bar serves a selection of cocktails and wines for guests to savor while admiring the scenery.

Anik palace hotel:  This hotel is situated just 1,7 Km from the S21 or Genocide museum and is has accommodation and lovely outside pool, free private parking and a fitness cenger.

You can have Asian or continental breakfast during your stay. The highlight of this hotel is that you can have vegetarian or kosher options as per request.

The hotel is 1,9 Km from the Royal Palace which makes it very convenient if you would like to visit it by foot.

Lux city hotel and apartment: This hotel is located just 1,7 Km to Vattanac and it is a 25 floors building. The hotel has beautiful pool and view over the city.

Each unit contains kitchenware so that you will be able to cook your own food if you wish.

Iroha garden hotel and resort: This is an oasis of calmness in the middle of the busy Asian metropolis and the garden and rooms are simply stunning.

The Iroha garden Hotel & Resort has a nice tropical garden and spa and the rooms are simply amazing as they offer different themes.

The in- house restaurant used to be a 1930s mansion restored and it serves a variety of Asian and Western dishes nowadays.

HIGH END LUXURY STAYS: GIVE YOURSELF A TREAT

Luxury accommodation in Phonm Penh is still quite affordable. If you want to give yourself a treat or your budget allows this is the perfect place to do it. As you will be enjoying luxury for a very good ration quality price.

I am not really that fond of luxury but I think in Phnom Penh you can enjoy good luxury paying 4 times less than back home so it is the perfect place to indulge and treat yourself.

Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh: The Hyatt Regency in Phonm Penh is just 1 Km from the Royal Palace and it is one of the best luxury hotels to stay in Phonm Penh. The hotel has a lovely outdoor swimming pools and 24 hours sercnve. Every room can equipped with a safety box and a private bath room and some rooms have even a kitchen if you are the type of person that likes to cook while traveling. Their restaurans is amazing and offers vegan and gluten free options and you might want to visit it, even you are not staying there.

Citadines Flatiron Phnom Penh:  This Citadines hotel is located in the heart of the city and has air conditioned rooms and breathtaking city views. It comes with sauna and you can have private partking on site.

Breakfast is delicious and they even have some Italian food if you one of those travelers missing Western food while in Asia.

The multilingual staff at the 24-hour front desk are readily available to assist guests in English, Khmer, and Chinese, ensuring that every need is met promptly and efficiently

Yes, it is safe but you need to take precautions as in most big cities petty crime is present. You need to keep your belongings close to you when crossing the road and avoid dark areas at night.

Traffic is quite messy as in most South East Asian cities so you need to take special care when crossing the road.
